These are some of the resources that came from the above link.
www.bookhive.org - sounded really good, but they must be experiencing some technical difficulties at the moment as I couldn't get on. What they are said to have is "reviews of children's books by searching by author, title, illustrator, reading level, genre, etc. Includes an image of each title's book cover."
http://www.talestoldtall.com/BooksforBoys.html This is an incredible site for finding books that boys will love. All the reviews are by one person, Michael Sullivan, but look at his resume. He knows what he is talking about. I will definately be looking here, as I am always looking for titles to recommend for boys.
http://www.hbook.com/resources/books/default.asp To fully utilize Horn Book you would need to subscribe, which is a bit pricey, but this website has free access to some information. What I found valuable was their lists of top picks.
http://www.kidsreads.com/ Again another site that looks great. This would be a great one to direct your students to as well.
http://www.mcpl.lib.mo.us/readers/ This isn't so much reviews (although there are some), but also databases of award winning books, books, stories, and plays that have been made into movies, suggested reading lists, there is also a section on series.
http://www.planetesme.com/fun.html There is a section on best new books, with an archive that goes back to 1999, but there is much much more. I could spend a lot of time on this site.
Outstanding Science Trade books, as recommended by NSTA. I've found
some gems on this list!
Social studies has their version, although you have to be a member to
access the newest one:

It's not free outright, but some districts/states/libraries, etc.
provide free access to NoveList.
I like this one for graphic novels:

Many libraries have good compilations of review sites, such as this one
from Fairfax County, VA
